Hi! My name is Carrie and I would like to go abroad to China with AFS because when I started searching the Internet for an exchange program for a high school student I couldn't find any that fit my criteria of what I wanted my exchange student company to be like. When I started to give up hope on finding an exchange program until I met Kimi, who went abroad with AFS to Germany, and she told me about all these wonderful things that they did to help her get ready to go abroad and how I can find their website. So once I got home I checked out the website and started looking around and liked what I saw and when I was finished I started clicking on this map that it had right next to each page on their website and when I clicked on it, it sent me to different regional website for the main exchange programs and when I found mine I couldn’t believe how well they fit to my standards of what I expected from my exchange program: Not to expensive, scholarships, workshops that help you, activities in my area, and people that are available to help you 24/7. From then on I wanted to go abroad with AFS.
Honestly the only thing I hope to gain from AFS is for a different experience from what I’m use to in the states. I just want to learn a language, meet the people, absorb the culture, and have a darn good time while I am at it. When I go to new places for a long time they always seem to shape me differently as a person and help mold my character. At my new high school I can feel and see the difference in my person and character after being at this school. I started to be more grateful for what I have, be more humble and kind, and realize that I have to enjoy things while I still have them. Before going to this school I never enjoyed the things I have while I still had them, I always told myself to never take things for granted but I still seemed to take everything for granted but ever since I started going to my new high school I started seeing the value of things more and less of what they could do for me. In return for everything I am learning while abroad I will always offer my services to help at home and at school in anyway I can while spreading my culture to them as they have done to me.
I need help financing my AFS trip abroad because my parents cannot help me financially with my dream to go abroad because it’s too much money. My mother in particular said that she cannot support me financially for this trip but she will be supporting me every step of the way as I achieve my goal of getting enough money to go abroad to China.
I have already started planning what I’m going to do to contribute to my fundraising efforts. I have already started planning who I will send emails to, for safety reasons, and looking over the fundraising choices that AFS has to offer with my mom in order to get her approval for the ones that she thinks that are appropriate for me, will work best for me and which ones are best suited with my personality.
I would like to raise $3,500.
